Prices
The cost of translation is based upon the number of words of text in the source language. All quoted rates are for a quantity of 1000 words source text to be translated.
Estimates
An estimate shall not be considered contractually binding but is given for guidance or information only.
Quotes and Offers
Verbal quotations shall not be legally binding and must be confirmed in writing. The contractual relationship with fin-ger shall only be established through the issuance of a written acknowledgment of the order, given after the translator has seen the source material. Written quotations remain valid for 30 days, after which time it may be subject to revision.
Orders
Orders will be completed in accordance with the conditions detailed in this section. The client shall not impose conditions that counteract the terms listed here, unless expressly agreed to in writing by Gert Hirschfeld. The client must specify a completion date when commissioning the translation and agree it with the translator.
Cancellation
If the client for any reason cancels a commissioned translation less than 48 hours prior to the agreed commencement of the work, he or she will be charged with 50% of the agreed price of the translation.
If the work had already commenced, the client shall be liable to pay in full for all completed work and 50% of the rest of the commissioned project.
Receipt of source material
The receipt of the text for translation shall be confirmed in writing by the translator.
Deadlines and delivery of completed work
The delivery of the completed translation can be expected not earlier or later than the normal close of business at the client´s premises on the agreed delivery date.
Fin-ger has a very good reputation for prompt delivery and will always endeavour to meet dates for completion of work. These dates are best estimates and the author is not liable for consequences of any delay for any reason whatsoever.
Terms of payment
Please note that all invoices are due for payment in full without discount immediately upon receipt. After 30 days from date of invoice, a charge for overdue payments is levied at 1% above the current base rate of the Bank of England (currently: 5.25%). On top of that, an administrative charge of 5 GBP per issued reminder will be added to the amount payable.
In some circumstances, payment or part payment may be requested, prior to the commencement of the work. on all balances outstanding beyond the due date. The client has no right to retain any portion of the charged amount and may not offset an invoice against other claims.
Additional services
Additional services such as DTP layout, printing, web design, testing etc. shall be subject to separate agreement at the time of the contract and shall be invoiced separately.
Specific Terminology
If knowledge of company-specific terminology is required for the proper translation of a particular piece of written material, it cannot be assumed that any such knowledge, as would only be available to a particular client organisation, is also available to the translator.
In such cases, the client shall provide such instruction in the form of individual glossaries, previous translations or terminology lists, as it may be necessary for the proper translation of the material or any other aid to translation.
Illegal Matters
Fin-ger refuses to engage in any translation, which is or may be of an illegal, unethical or libellous nature.
Copyright
The copyright of the translation is the property of the translator and will be passed on to the client only after full payment has been made for the translation.
Errors
The client shall be liable for errors in the source text. The translator is not liable for any of those errors or mistakes. Stylistic nuances in translations are a matter of taste and cannot be a reason for complaints or refusal of payment.
Sub-contraction
In certain cases, the translator reserves the right to sub-contract all or part of the work to a translator of his own choice.
General comments on translation
A translation is a transfer of material written in the source language into the target language by a translator. A knowledge of grammar and vocabulary are required in the process but no word-for-word translation can achieve a successful outcome. The purpose is to maintain the concepts contained in the original material but to find ways of writing a convincing copy in the other language, just as if it had originally been written in that target language.
Sometimes the translation appears to be of a higher quality than the original text, as the original might still have contained typographical mistakes, omissions, or was stylistically not the best choice. Whereas this could lead to an improvement of the text, such modifications cannot be guaranteed. It is the translator´s intention to inform the client of such noteworthy points and to provide a brief report to accompany the translation.
